Bulldogettes starts volleyball season 2-0

POST — The Coahoma Bulldogettes started the season with a pair of wins after outlasting Post in five sets and beating the Lamesa in four in non-district action on Tuesday night.

Coahoma closed out the dual with a 18-25, 21-25, 25-9, 25-23, 15-13 win over Post and a 23-25, 25-17, 25-11, 25-19 victory over Lamesa.

However, the day didn’t start off well for the Bulldogettes. The Post volleyball squad wrapped up the first set with a seven-point run for the win and held off a late-in-the-game, five-point rally by Coahoma in the second set to get a 2-0 lead in the match.

By the third set the Bulldogettes seemed to have put away their game day jitters and dominated Post 25-9. Madison Rodgers set the tone for the Bulldogettes at the serve line going on a three-point run early in the game. Helping the cause were Karleigh Burt, Brynn Rodgers, and Isabella Cox, who had deep runs at the serve line.

Zoie Joslin helped to continue the Bulldogettes’ momentum by snagging the first point of the fourth set with a setter dump. The CHS junior then served up four more points to bring Coahoma into a 5-0 advantage. Post battled back and briefly took the lead at 19-20 before Coahoma got the 25-23 win and forced the tie-breaking fifth set.

Cox led the Bulldogettes on offense with 10 kills. Cayhill Lewis had eight. Joslin had 24 assists for the match.

In match two, the Bulldogettes bounced back again after losing the first set to Lamesa 23-25 but won the next three decisively. Joslin and M. Rodgers picked up three aces each and Cox served one. Joslin also had 19 assists. M. Rodgers and Lewis earned seven kills each.

In sub-varsity action, JV White split the dual with a win over Post and a loss to Lamesa. JV Red dropped both games on Tuesday.

Next: The varsity Bulldogettes head to Veribest to compete at the annual Falcon Fest tournament this Friday and Saturday. The sub-varsity teams will have the weekend off.
