9 CHS athletes land on THSCA's Football Academic All-State Team


COAHOMA — Nine Coahoma High School players and trainers were recognized for their work off the field and in the classroom by a state organization recently.

 

Bulldogs Grayson Glidewell, Seth Brooks, Colin Daniels, Bryden Fontana, Noah Dials, Brenner Gartman, and Kolt Redden as well as CHS trainers MaKynlee Overton and Tanner Atkins were named to the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) Football Academic All-State Team.

“This is a big honor and a testament to these kids taking care of their business in the classroom,” said Chris Joslin, CISD Athletic Director and head football coach. “These are excellent student leaders who work hard both on the field and in their academic studies, and it’s a well deserved honor for them to be recognized as among the top academic student athletes in the state.”

 

The THSCA bases its honor on the following areas: GPA, class rank, and ACT/SAT score.

 

CHS Academic All-State

1st Team — Grayson Glidwell

2nd Team —Seth Brooks, Colin Daniels, Bryden Fontana, MaKynlee Overton, Tanner Atkins.

BSHS Senior Jocelyn Gonzales to play collegiate volleyball and softball for Sul Ross University


Yesterday, Big Spring High School celebrated Senior Jocelyn Gonzales signed a letter of intent to play collegiate athletics for Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas. Gonzales will be playing both volleyball and softball for the Lobos.

 

While surrounded by her family and friends, Gonzales thanked her parents, coaches, teammates, and friends for their support. When asked how she felt to be able to share the moment with those close to her, Gonzales stated, "I feel blessed and honored, really. I can't believe this moment is happening, and it's just a dream come true, really."

 

In softball, Gonzales plays 1st and 3rd and in volleyball she plays outside hitter and setter. She told KBest News that she’s been playing softball since she was 4 and has been playing volleyball since she was in 6th grade. 

 

While attending Sul Ross, Gonzales plans to major in History and minor in Kinesiology. She hopes to become a coach after graduation.

Big Spring Lady Steers receive All-District recognition for Volleyball


Volleyball All-District Honors were recently announced for the Big Spring Lady Steers.  

 

Ryen Terrazas received Offensive Player of the Year. Jocelyn Gonzales and Kalyn Whitehead made 1st Team All-District. Ashlin Calvio made 2nd Team All-District, and Jacqueline Belew received Honorable Mention. 

 

Those who made Academic All-District were Jocelyn Gonzales, Ashlin Calvio, Jacqueline Belew, Mya Blanco, Tristan Smith, Ryen Terrazas, Kalyn Whitehead, Gissele Holguin, and Kortney Moore.

Coahoam's I. Cox named newcomer of the year for 5-3A District honors


Isabella Cox made a big impression on the 5-3A volleyball coaches this year, and they remembered her when it was time to hand out the annual end of the season accolades.

 

The CHS freshman was named Co-Newcomer of the Year. I. Cox served as an outside and opposite hitter for the Bulldogettes and was very effective on defense during the 2020 season.

 

Overall, the Bulldogettes landed seven on the 5-3A All-District list.

 

MaKynlee Overton and Julia Cox, both seniors, were named to the All-District First Team. Sophomore Christian Everett and Senior Ashley Romero were selected for the All-District Second Team. Senior Kenzi Canales and sophomore Zoie Joslin received honorable mention honors.
