Coahoma Youth Baseball Sign-Ups!

Coahoma Youth Baseball sign-ups are going on now through Saturday, Feb. 29th. Ages 14 and under are welcomed to sign up from all over Howard County. Age groups are divided by Ponies, Majors, Minors, and Tee-Ball, and teams are co-ed.

Noel Olivas, Coahoma Youth Baseball Board Member, told KBest News that youth sports are great to get kids outside in fresh air, moving, and learning about wins and losses.

"I still remember a lot of the things my coaches told me, more so than when I was older. I didn't realize how big of an influence they'd be. Now that I'm a 40-year-old man, I still think about them."

Olivas said that the coaches get together to discuss strategies to help kids across the board and make it a good experience for everyone.

Sign-ups will be held from 6-8 pm at the Dairy Queen in Coahoma today, Feb. 24th - Feb. 28th. On Saturday, sign-ups at Dairy Queen in Coahoma will be from 10 am to 12 pm. Cost is $80 per kid, and there are multi-kid discounts available, as well. Plus, there are sponsorship opportunities for those who need it.

For more information, contact the Facebook group for Coahoma Youth Baseball.

2019-2020 Girls Basketball Play-offs Updates

Coahoma Bulldogettes and the Forsan Lady Buffs basketball teams competed for Bi-District Championships on Monday night, 02/17/2020.

The Bulldogettes lost to Cisco with a final score of 56-68.

According to Coahoma Media, Coahoma surged in the second quarter to open a five-point lead 29-24 but Cisco came back to end the half up by seven, 31-38. It was a very fast paced game. Cisco would ramp up the score and Coahoma kept pushing back. About two minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogettes came within five points to tie, 55-60. Fouls hurt them. Six of the last eight points by Cisco came at the charity stripe.

Coahoma ended the season 5-7 district, 21-11 which is one of the best seasons in a long time. The Bulldogettes haven’t been to UIL basketball playoffs since 2016.

Forsan Lady Buffs lost to Stamford on Monday night. Final score was 34-54.

Tuesday night, 02/18/2020, the Big Spring Lady Steers will also compete for the Bi-District Championship. They'll be playing against Witchita Falls Hirschi at 8 PM in Anson. That game will be broadcasted live on The Mighty 1490 AM.

LOCATION CHANGE for annual Run 2 Love 2 Run event

Runners participating in the annual Run 2 Love 2 Run event, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 15th, 2020, in Big Spring will experience a nice change of scenery this year. The race, traditionally held at the Big Spring State Park, has been moved to Comanche Trail Park. According to Craig Felty, Race Coordinator for Permian Basin Events, the race will begin and end at the new SM Energy pavilion, which is located between the Dora Roberts Community Center and the historic spring.

Felty told KBest News that they had made the change to try and make the race more accessible to people at different fitness levels. This year’s course at Comanche Trail Park, utilizes the old Rose Majers trail, runs past the spring and makes a loop through the park. Felty advised that the new course is an easy mix of road and trail that should be much flatter and faster than the Scenic Mountain course.

Online registration for the race is still available at Cost for adults is $30, students and children are $20, and the entry fee for teams of 2 competing in the couple’s category is $50. Money raised from this year's race will benefit CASA of West Texas.

It should be noted that the entrance roads leading to the golf course and the Dora Roberts Community Center will remain open, but the rest of the park will be closed from 9:30 am – 11 am for the race.
