COAHOMA — The Coahoma Bulldogettes came back from a seven-point deficit to earn a victory against the McCamey Lady Badgers in three sets — 25-12, 25-19, 26-24 — on Tuesday night.
After two straight losses to Kermit and Big Spring, the ‘Dogettes (8-13) needed a win to get their focus back on district which opens Sept. 28 at Jim Ned.
“It was a huge win for us, especially after our loss last week to Kermit in five sets,” said Jamie Bonner, Bulldogettes Head Volleyball Coach following the game. “That was a heartbreaker. We had a really good practice yesterday, and I told them we have to learn how to finish, and we have to win in the end.”
And that’s just what her team did on Tuesday night. After falling to a seven-point deficit (4-11) in the third set, Coahoma went on a five-point streak to cut the Lady Badger’s lead down to two (9-11). By mid-match, the Bulldogettes tied the game after a solid kill by Julia Cox and surged ahead on the next serve.
The Lady Badgers were not so easily dissuaded from attempting to force a fourth set as they came back three times to tie the match before Coahoma put away the game 26-24.
“I’ve been telling them we have to finish,” Bonner said. “We can’t be scared to hit the ball. We have to use our offense the entire game. If it’s working for us, we can’t get scared because it’s game point and just push or tip the ball. We have to hit, and I think we did a good job of doing that tonight.”
Cox led the Bulldogettes to victory with 12 kills. MaKynlee Overton had six and Kirah Kimball pounded out five. Zoie Joslin recorded a whopping 21 assists
