Bulldogettes 2, Lady Mustangs 1 @ Andrews
The Coahoma Bulldogettes pulled off a score in the top eighth inning to claim their sixth win of the season Tuesday night in Andrews. The Bulldogettes won 2-1 against the Lady Mustangs in Andrews.
The game was forced into the extra inning after Andrew’s Hailey Canava homered a fly ball to right field. The Bulldogetttes were able to get out of the inning without anymore scores and set to work on their offense.
With one out in the top of the eighth, Coahoma’s Kamri Kemper got on base with a walk and ended up in scoring position in the next play after Jaydan Mann blasted a fly ball to right field for a double. Pitcher MaKynlee Overton flied out to right field but Kemper tagged up at third and headed straight across home plate for the winning score.
The Bulldogetttes wrapped up the game in the bottom of the eighth allowing only one player on base who advanced because she was hit by a pitch.
Overall hits were a precious commodity during Tuesday’s game and both teams remained scoreless until the seventh inning. Coahoma took the lead for the first time after Kenzi Canales grounded out to the Lady Mustang pitcher but the sacrifice allowed Ashley Romero to score. Romero got on base earlier by belting a double on a hard ground ball to center field. She advanced to third base thanks to a successful bunt by MaKayla Overton.
The Lady Mustangs major threat to the Bulldogettes came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Aubree Hernandez stepped up the plate with the bases loaded and only one out. She hit into a double play to MaKynlee Overton and stranded two fellow teammates on base.
MaKynlee Overton earned the win for the game. She threw 108 pitches, allowed 6 hits and 1 run, and struck out 3 over eight innings. She faced 33 batters and got 75 strikes.
Romero and Mann hit doubles. Lexi Montelongo and Romero were both nimble on their feet and were credited with one stolen base each. Romero led the Bulldogs in hits going 2 for 4 at the plate.
Coahoma boys lose game to TLCA Tuesday - Bulldogs 6, Eagles 15 @ San Angelo
The Coahoma Bulldogs lost to the Texas Leadership Charter Academy Eagles 15-6 in high school boys baseball action Tuesday night in San Angelo.
The Bulldogs jumped out into an early lead in the top of the first inning when Braden Pearson hit a ground ball to left field bringing home Zach Holmes from third. Earlier, Holmes belted a hard grounder for a double to get on base. He advanced to third after Seth Brooks grounded out to the Eagles’ pitcher. Coahoma added to their lead later after the Eagles pitcher walked Landon Grant with the bases loaded sending Logan Franklin to home plate. The Eagles quickly recovered bringing in three runs in the bottom of the first.
The Bulldogs knotted the game 3-all in the top of the second after Franklin grounded out to the Eagles third baseman allowing Brant Gartmen to get across home plate. The Eagles retook the lead for good in the third inning despite a strong comeback for Coahoma in the top of the fifth.
With one out, Coahoma’s Jonathan Schneider belted out a grounder. Zack Schneider and Grant scored on the play. The Eagles salted away the game in the next two innings earning 3 runs in the fifth and 5 in the sixth to walk away with the 15-6 victory.
Gaige Hill was the starting pitcher for Coahoma. He went four innings, threw 88 pitches, allowed 7 runs, 5 walks and struck out 5. He faced 23 batters and got 46 strikes. Holmes came in as relief. He threw 56 pitches, allowed 8 runs, had 3 walks and struck out 2. He faces 16 players and got 28 strikes.
