Big Spring boys powerlifters competed in the Pecos Power Classic over the weekend. This meet was the last boys qualifier for Regionals. The top 12 boys in each weight division once the last qualifier weekend is done qualify for Regionals. According to Big Spring High School's Head Powerlifting Coach Chris McWilliams, the boys who were in possible danger of getting bumped out of the top 12, or who were just outside of it went to this meet; and the boys who are rated high in the rankings, and are safe as far as qualifying for Regionals, did not go to this meet. Here are the results:
Morris Norman was 5th in the 114 lb class
Sean Mendoza was 1st in the 123 lb class
Cruz Martinez was 2nd in the 123 lb class
Joshua Lopez was 3rd in the 132 lb class
Andrew Roberts was 2nd in the 242 lb class
Daniel Roberts was 2nd in the 275 lb class
With basically half of a team competing at Pecos, the Steers Powerlifting team finished 3rd out of 10 teams, and all medaled. Coach McWilliams stated that he was very proud of how their boys competed!
