On Monday, November 6th, the Big Spring 7th and 8th grade Lady Steers basketball teams traveled to Andrews to play the Mustangs.
According to Rosi Slate with BSISD ATC, the 8th grade "B" Lady Steers played hard against the Andrews, and came away with a 12-point win. They had some great defensive plays that led to steals and points. The leading Lady Steers defensive players were Mallory Paul, Gabby Gonzales, and Kayleigh Muniz. The leading scorers were Trinity Robertson and Kayleigh Muniz with 8 points.
The 8th grade "A" team also beat the Andrews Mustangs, with a final score of 38-37. Ryen Terrazas passed to Alex Enriquez who made the game winning layup with 6 seconds left to seal the win. Alex Enriquez led scoring with 12 points followed by Ryen Terrazas with 7 points. On defense, Tristan Smith, Mya Blanco and Kalyn Whitehead played well.
The 7th grade "B" team lost to Andrews in a hard fought game 18-28. They hustled the whole game led by Genevieve Bedinger and Kristen Bermea. Kierstan Furuya and Jalen Sykes were strong on defense, while Emily Matthews and Mia Bustamante were leading the offense. Great effort Ladies!
The 7th grade "A" Lady Steers led the first quarter and went on to win 34-20 over the Andrews Mustangs.
The entire team played with such heart and such a strong will to compete at the same time improve. Elaina Arredondo led the team with 12 points and handled the ball well, seeing the court as she dribbled. Daniah Wrighter was a beast underneath the goal. Kadence Canales and Gissele Houdlin ran the floor, playing great defense and getting many steals to help further the lead. The team has a lot to learn and it's good to have a group willing to do just that.
