A free comedy show will be held on Sunday night in downtown Big Spring. Attendees will get to enjoy 90 minutes of laughter and have an opportunity to raise money for the Big Spring Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans.
The “Veterans of Comedy and Friends” comedy show will be held on Sept. 5, 2021, at 10 PM at the Desert Flower Art Bar, located on the corner of E. 2nd and Main St. The show will feature Veterans of Comedy Chris Crawford and Mike Shields and will be hosted by Jenni Moore. During the event, for every person who meets Chris Crawford and mentions the DAV the Veterans of Comedy will donate $2 to DAV, Ch. 47 in Big Spring.
When asked what moved him to organize the fundraiser, Crawford stated that it's the kind of thing that the VOC does.
"Our charge is to try to support troops, both past, and present, through our chosen method - which happens to be laughter and sharing humor and bringing cheer to people’s faces. However, I think that in general, we like to perform for the VFWs, VA clinics, the DAV - anyway we can give back to the people who actually make a difference in a veteran’s life or give back to those who support the troops," said Crawford.
"That’s what we really, really like to do. That is our charge and our mission with the Veterans of Comedy. We’re not just comedians, but we’re also people who are trying to be involved in the communities and organizations that support our brothers and sisters in arms."
Chris Crawford served in the U.S. Airforce for 20 years. Since retirement, Crawford now is a teacher in San Angelo at Goodfellow Airforce Base helping to prepare the next generation of airmen as they move forward into their careers. He’s been with the Veterans of Comedy for over a year.
