During Monday’s meeting of the Howard County Commissioners Court, no one from the public addressed the court during a public hearing on the proposed tax rate of approximately $0.339629/$100 valuation. Commissioners approved the proposed budget for ‘21-‘22 fiscal year which used a No New Revenue tax rate of approximately $0.32745/$100 valuation. Although this is an increase of less than $0.03 from last year’s rate of $0.29956/$100 valuation, the No New Revenue tax rate will not generate any more money than what was raised last year.

According to Craig Bailey, Howard County Commissioner for Pct. 2, the rate increase is due to the rise in property values. This NNR tax rate budget will result in a deficit for Howard County, but this will be covered by using money from the General Fund Budget.
