A new scholarship has been created at Howard College for single mothers going through the nursing program. It’s called the Beth Peters Sunflower Scholarship. Beth Peters had worked at the V.A. in Big Spring for 19 years as a nurse and was about 2 weeks away from retirement when she passed away from COVID-19. Her family has now started this scholarship in honor of Beth, who had been a single mother of four boys at the time she went through the nursing program at Howard College.
Beginning at 11 AM tomorrow, 4/24/21, the Peters family will be selling Brisket plates at Braelyn’s Treasures & Vinyl, 1907 Birdwell Ln Ste. D in Big Spring. (Shopping center at Birdwell Ln. and FM 700, near Sunny Side Up.) Plates are $10 each and will come with Beth’s special chocolate cake that she would make for her co-workers’ birthdays. Plates will be free for all VA workers who present their badge. All money raised will go to the scholarship endowment fund.
Anyone wanting to make donations to the endowment can do so by contacting Julie Bailey with Howard College at firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 432-264-5051.
