During Monday's meeting of the Howard County Commissioners Court, Library Director Mavour Braswell informed Commissioners of a grant that she had been awarded for the county library. According to Braswell, she wrote a grant to the Texas State Library & Archives Commission for $16,489, and it was awarded.
This money is to be spent by the end of August 2021 and will be used for additional technology services for the community. Braswell advised that the county library would be purchasing hotspots that can be circulated and checked out, more Wifi hubs in the library for a stronger signal, and a self-checkout station. She also advised that the grant would allow them to purchase additional launch pads. These self-contained tablets are for kids, and they don't require an internet connection. The 15 devices that will be purchased are specifically designed to improve literacy skills-reading and writing. They'll also be purchasing self-contained STEM kits that can be checked out.
