Following up on a story we aired earlier this month from our news series “Just the Facts” where we reported that, according to NewsWest 9 reporter Tatum Guinn, Big Spring Mayor Shannon Thomason had filed a complaint with the Texas Rangers concerning “tampering with a government document” .
KBest News had filed a Public Information Request with the Texas Rangers/DPS requesting information on an investigation request made by Thomason concerning this allegation. KBest was advised by Brian Sears, Assistant General Counsel with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Office of the General Counsel, “The Department has conducted a good faith search for any and all information related to your request and, based on the information provided, has not been able to locate any responsive records.”
After receiving a response on an additional Public Information Request from the Texas Rangers / DPS, it was revealed Mayor Thomason had, indeed, filed a criminal complaint on the matter against Big Spring City Secretary Don Moore and Assistant Secretary Tami Davis.
According to Sears, the information was not forwarded to KBest News in our previous request because “Department personnel conducting the search for responsive records searched only for closed or active investigations related to the complaint, rather than the complaint itself. As the Texas Rangers are not conducting an investigation related to Mr. Thomason’s complaint, no records were located.”
As for the possible investigation on Thomason, reported by KBest News on October 2nd, 2020 , there has been not yet been any information received from the Texas Rangers to indicate whether or not he is under investigation by their department at this time.
