Howard County Junior College District Board of Trustees approved organizational changes at yesterday’s meeting in an effort to save money.
According to Dr. Cheryl Sparks, President of Howard College, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs Amy Burchett will be assuming some additional responsibilities from the Administrative Dean for Instruction and Student Services position that was previously held by Erin MacKenzie, who had resigned last January. She noted that the position had been frozen and removed from the budget this past summer. Terry Hanson, Athletic and Special Projects Officer, will transition to a consulting role in January 2021 for the Big Spring SWCD roofing project.
Nancy Bonura, Dean of Student Services at the SWCD, resigned last December. Danny Campbell, Administrative Dean for Instruction at the Southwest College for the Deaf (SWCD), will move into an interim executive role for SWCD campus.
Dr. Sparks advised the board that they foresaw a challenging legislative session and they’re just trying to prepare for those kinds of situations.
During the meeting, it was noted that Howard College will begin their celebration of their 75th anniversary on November 17, 2020.
It was announced that Richard Miller had been hired as the new Chief Appraiser for the Howard County Appraisal District. He'll begin on November 2, 2020. It was stated that there was a vacancy on the HCAD Board of Directors that the Board of Trustees could make a nomination for the board. At this time, the board had no nominations at this time to fill the vacancy.
