Two separate pedestrian-vehicle accidents resulted in death in Ector County this week.
The first occurred on Sunday evening, 05/17/2020, on US Highway 385, 5 miles south of Odessa. DPS troopers arrived on the scene at 6:41 PM to find pedestrian Patricia Munoz, 37 of Odessa, had been struck by a vehicle. According to the DPS report, James Comeaux, 20 of Odessa, had been traveling north on US Hwy 385, when he observed Munoz in the center of the roadway. Comeaux swerved in an attempt to avoid collision. Munoz was struck by the vehicle and was later pronounced dead at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
The second pedestrian death occurred early Monday, 05/18/2020, at approximately 12:33 AM, 7 miles west of Odessa on Knox Avenue. According to the report from DPS, Cristian Baeza, 18 of Odessa, was traveling south on Knox Avenue. The pedestrian, identified as Reyna Rodriguez, 16 of Midland, was walking in the center of the roadway and was struck by Baeza’s vehicle. Rodriguez was pronounced dead on scene and the crash is still under investigation.
