The United Way of Big Spring and Howard County invites the public to “Wash Your Hands and Fill Your Trunk” with them on Saturday, May 9th, at the Blankenship Field parking lot next to Big Spring High School, located at 707 E. 11th Place in Big Spring.
Saturday morning, the local United Way organization will be distributing 300 grocery care packages, beginning at 10 AM. The public will enter through the entrance on 10th street, pop their trunk or cargo area, stay in their vehicle, and United Way volunteers will load the groceries into your vehicle. United Way Board Members and volunteers helping will be wearing masks and practicing social distancing.
Be advised, you must show proof of Howard County residency, drivers license, utility bill or report card. Only one care package per vehicle will be distributed, so be sure to have a space cleared in your trunk or cargo area for the package. Once you have your groceries you will exit onto 11th place.
According to Christian Fair, Executive Director for the United Way of Big Spring and Howard County, the organization was able to fund the event through their “Wash Your Hands” t-shirt campaign where they made approximately $3,000 to add to their COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund. Fair stated that in addition to that, they also received grants and donations from community partners, plus added funds from their “rainy day fund”.
