Effective Sunday, March 22, 2020, at midnight and in response to the COVID-19, the Big Spring Police Department offices will remain open by appointment and electronic means ONLY. The Big Spring Police Department will also be making the additional below modifications to our operations to ensure that our officers and the public are protected to the greatest extent possible while assisting on the prevention of the spread of COVID-19 and while effectively providing the necessary services our citizens require.
All ride along programs and building tours are suspended while under this plan.
Citizen fingerprinting services has been suspended during this plan.
The Police Department lobby will be closed and only accessible by appointment only.
Effective Sunday, March 22, 2020, at midnight, officers will only respond to calls in progress, assaultive, violent, or calls that require collection of evidence.
Calls requiring reports not fitting the above parameters will be taken over the phone by officers. If an officer while taking the report by phone determines that collection of evidence is needed, the officer shall respond and use appropriate COVID-19 precautions.
It is imperative that when calling Communications that the caller leave a good call back number for Officers to return calls.
Effective Monday, March 23, 2020, at 8:00 a.m. the Shelter will only be accessible to the public by appointment only. The shelter will continue to be manned and the care of our animals will not change. Animals that need to be picked up will be done so by appointment only arranged by calling 432-264-2372. Again, social distancing will be implemented with anyone coming to the shelter. Anyone that exhibits symptoms of COVID-19 will not be allowed inside the shelter. Only one person from the public will be allowed in the shelter at a time during this plan.
Animal Service Officers will continue to respond to calls using social distancing whenever possible.
During this time, the Records Division will remain open by appointment and electronic means ONLY. Services and appointments may be obtained by calling 432-264-2568.
During this plan, the Identification Division will remain open by appointment and electronic means ONLY. Citizens needing to have property released or returned will be by appointment only and citizens are to call 432-264-2576.
When citizens who need to call and make an appointment for any of the above Divisions, COVID-19 screening questions will be asked prior to any appointment being made.
Rest assured the Big Spring Police Department will continue to protect and serve our community during this trying time. We will continue to respond to crimes in progress, keep our roadways safe, and work with other community partners to ensure the safety of the citizens we serve.
The Big Spring Police Department will notify our citizens upon return to normal services. We do appreciate the support and understanding from our community.
