During Tuesday’s meeting of the Big Spring City Council, Hayley Herrera, Community Services Director for the City of Big Spring, announced that KDC Associates Kelly D. Cook and Johnathan Pruessner recently received the Merit Award of Professional Achievement by the American Society of Landscape Architects for Outstanding Achievement of The Spring Project.

Permission was also granted by the City Councilmembers to request proposals for IP phone systems since the City's telephone systems are outdated. It is projected that by replacing AT&T's copper line connections with a fiber optic connection the city would be able to save $151,000 per year.

City Council members Doug Hartman, District 2, and Camilla Strande, District 5, agreed to with Raul Marquez, President of the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Big Spring, and other board members as part of a committee to create summer activities for Big Spring area youth to enjoy since the repairs to the Russell McEwen Aquatic Center will most likely not be completed this summer.
