When There's Smoke on the Mountain or Clouds in the Air, K-Best News Is There!

Today, Mike and Sheila Abusaab, Owners of Sonic Drive-Ins and KBest Media in Big Spring, donated $5,000 to establish the new Mike and Sheila Abusaab Teaching Scholarship at Howard College for anyone pursuing a career as a teacher.

After learning that Howard College has partnered with Tech Teach Across Texas, a program that fast tracks students to help them progress from an Associate to a Bachelor’s degree in a single year while earning their teaching certification, the Abusaabs decided to make the donation. They hope that donation will encourage others to donate as well.

Sheila Abusaab has taught for most of her life and a majority of her career was spent at Big Spring High School. She told KBest News that good teachers are desperately needed in Texas and she believes the new program will bring about dynamic teachers for the area.

"We want to make sure that Howard County is covered, because we have the best schools and best people. We have the best administrators, school boards, [and] the best students. Our students can't be beat," said Sheila. "This is what the money is going for. We are very proud to do this and we hope that other peole will follow."
