When There's Smoke on the Mountain or Clouds in the Air, K-Best News Is There!

Yesterday afternoon, approximately 200 people gathered at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring to lay to rest local veteran who had no known family.

Although very few people in attendance had actually met U.S. Army veteran Michael James McGrath, 64 of Big Spring, many were moved to attend the funeral service because he had once served our country.

Roger Rodman, Crossroads Young Marine Unit Commander and 1st Texas Regiment Commander, told KBest News that he was proud to see the large turnout for the local veteran.

"I am exceedingly proud to see all of these people come out," said Rodman. "It means everything to me that a veteran with no family has this big of a turnout. We shouldn't let any veteran go to his resting place alone. We are brothers, sisters, and that's the way it'll be forever."

McGrath passed away on April 8, 2019. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Nalley-Pickle-Welsh Funeral Home and Crematory.
