During yesterday’s meeting of the Howard County Commissioners Court, the burn ban for Howard County was reinstated for 90 days. Howard County Volunteer Fire Chief Mitchell Hooper noted that during this time of year, the grass is dormant and has potential to become a wildfire. He went on to say that with the cold front coming and high winds, it is especially important to reinstate the burn ban.

Chief Hooper advised that if anyone needs to make a burn during these next 90 days, they will need to call him at 432-270-7160 for permission to do so.

A resolution against increased commercial truck weight limits was read by the Commissioners. Howard County Judge Kathryn Wiseman noted that they would be writing letters to their state and federal legislators to ask them to keep that from happening. Judge Wiseman noted that the Commissioners are adamantly opposed to the increased commercial truck weight limits because they end up on county roads and destroy them.
