Coahoma High School senior Brynn Workman received the Ken Cobb Memorial Scholarship Monday during the Coahoma FFA annual banquet where a number of members were recognized for their achievement in the past year.

“Our FFA members are very lucky to have the support of so many people,” said Aaron Custer, Coahoma FFA advisor. “Thank you to everyone that took the time to come recognize one of the best years our Chapter has ever experienced. These students and I appreciate you all more than you know.”

The Coahoma FFA Chapter celebrated a stellar year earning 45 state, area, and district banners. In the fall CHS freshman Julia Cox won the state LDE (Leadership Development Events) Greenhand Creed Speaking contest and qualified for nationals. The Coahoma FFA Radio Broadcasting team of Aubrey Green, Micah Worley, and Emilee Custer placed 7th in state and the Ag Advocacy team of Selina Baldwin, Macee Grant, Brylea Gordon, and Seth Brooks placed 8th.

Recently, Coahoma FFA had 13 students advance to area contest in SDE (Speaking Development Events). They are Grayson Glidewell, Seth Brooks, Sydney Rinard, Brenner Gartman, Naughtia Rockwell, Ashley Crisp, Brylea Gordon, Kolt Redden, Bailey Wells, Bryden Fontana, Cutter Atkins, Richard Thurman, and Julia Cox.

Overall, the program won district sweepstakes in LDE and SDE and area and state sweepstakes for a single teacher division for LDE. During the banquet, it was announced that CHS 2017 graduate Landyn Young will be running for State FFA President this summer. Young is attending Texas A&M.

The following awards were presented during the banquet:

FFA Booster Scholarships $750: Brynn Workman, Diana Gonzalez, Trey Brumley, and Aubrey Parum

Ken Cobb Memorial Scholarship Winner $1,000: Brynn Workman

State Plaques: State Champion - Greenhand Creed Speaking - Julia Cox; FFA Radio Broadcasting, 7th Place, the team of Micah Worley, Aubrey Green, and Emilee Custer; Ag Advocacy, 8th Place, the team of Macee Grant, Seth Brooks, Brylea Gordon, and Selina Baldwin.

Proficiency Winners - each recipient was presented a belt buckle: Sr Steer, Seth Brooks; Jr Goat, Case Custer; Sr Goat, Emilee Custer; Jr Lamb, Jocelyn Young; Sr Lamb, Brynn Workman; Jr Swine, Brady Anderson; Sr Swine, Aubrey Parum; Jr Rabbit, Paislie Hipp; and Sr Rabbit, Sydney Rinard

Ag Sales Winners: 1st, Kolt Reddin; 2nd, Brynn Workman; 3rd Kaylee Kernick.

Distinguished Service Award: Co Winners, Walter Brumley and Russell Parum

Also recognized was the new Chapter Officer team. They are President Micah Worley, Vice President Emilee Custer, Secretary Julia Cox, Treasurer Sydney Rinard, Reporter Ashley Crisp, Sentinel Grayson Glidewell, Student Advisor Seth Brooks, Parliamentarian Aubrey Green, Historian Naughtia Rockwell, and Chaplain Bailey Wells.

Greenhand Officers (incoming freshmen) are President Tanner Atkins, Vice President Joe Mashburn, and Secretary Madison Rodgers.

Running for office are Micah Worley for area; Emily Custer and Ashley Crisp for district.
