On the 16th of March 2018 at approximately 7:25 P.M., Big Spring Police Department Officers were dispatched to the KFC (1711 S. Gregg) in reference to shots fired. While en-route numerous calls came into dispatch informing occupants in a tan in color SUV were shooting at the occupants of a white passenger car and a black passenger car and all three vehicles had left the area. Officers were also dispatched to the area of 20th and Donley where one of the adult male occupants in the white vehicle had been shot and also to Scenic Mountain Medical Center where a 2 year old female child had been shot as a result of the shooting at KFC. The Big Spring Police Department Criminal Investigations Division and the Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers Division responded to assist with this investigation.
It is believed at approximately 7:25 P.M., the white and black cars were sitting in the north parking lot of KFC when the tan SUV approached from the alley just east of the parking lot. While the occupants in the white and black cars were visiting, two Hispanic/Males identified as Angel Villa 20 years of age and Rafael Jesus Hernandez Jr. 20 years of age opened fire on both vehicles. As the vehicles departed from the KFC parking lot in attempt to get away, Villa and Hernandez followed and continued firing at the vehicles while eastbound on East 18th Street. The driver of the black car drove the child to SMMC for treatment. The child was flown by helicopter to Covenant Medical in Lubbock Texas and was in serious condition. The driver of the white car continued to run from Villa and Hernandez until his vehicle was disabled in the 1000 block of E. 20th. Big Spring Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the adult male to Scenic Mountain Medical Center for treatment. The adult male was treated at Scenic Mountain Medical Center and is in stable condition.
At the time of this media release Arrest Warrants have been issued for Villa and Hernandez each for 2 counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon a Felony 2 offense. The Big Spring Police Department expects more charges to follow. This is an ongoing criminal investigation and there is no further information available at this time.
