The ViM & Vigor Race Series, benefitting the West Texas Trail Alliance will be held this weekend in Big Spring. ViM Racing is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 group that was created to raise money for local and national philanthropic groups through charity rides and also compete in USA cycling sanctioned events. This cross-country mountain biking race series is held at 4 unique West Texas venues with the goal to promote cycling and encourage youth participation.
This last race of the ViM & Vigor Series will be held in the Big Spring State Park on Saturday, Jan. 11th. Racing starts at 10 AM with the Kids Race and Adults race at 10:30 AM. According to Ron Alton, Manager for the Big Spring State Park, ages 8 and above are welcomed to race.
Proceeds from the race series will go to the West Texas Trail Alliance (https://www.fundtxtrails.org/) to help fund future trail building in the West Texas area. Last year, the organization spearheaded the project to build mountain bike trails at the Big Spring State Park.
There will be a cash payout purse of $2,100 with equal payouts for male/female categories plus a chance to win a new set of carbon wheels just by registering online.
This weekend’s race is the grand finale of the ViM & Vigor race series, but racers can still win prizes. It is the queen stage and it promises to be the toughest race of the series with more climbing, tech and a little more distance.
Ages 16 and will compete as Adults and will complete a 2.5 mile start lap followed by 2 complete laps around the Scenic Mountain Trail for a total of 9.3 miles.
Youth racers between the ages of 8-15 will complete a .6 mile start lap that includes the beginner loop followed by 2 more laps around the beginner loop for a total of 1.6 miles.
Cost to register is $15 for ages 19 and up, 18 and under race for free. Onsite registration will be available on the day of the race from 9 am – 9:45 am.
