The Howard College Hawks Softball Team is on their way to the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Regional Tournament that is scheduled for May 4th through May 6th. "We are in the playoffs, it's just going to be a matter of whether we're going to be the 1 or 2 seed and it comes down to this weekend at Frank Phillips and Clarendon College," says Hawks Head Softball Coach Kelly Raines tells us more.
Clarendon College and Howard College both have a record of 21 -3. Both teams will be competing against different colleges today – Howard will play Frank Phillips College and Clarendon will play Western Texas College. More than likely, the Hawks will be playing against Clarendon for the 1st seed spot tomorrow afternoon.
According to Coach Raines the if they split with Clarendon tomorrow, then both, Howard and Clarendon, will tie for Co-Conference Champions, and Clarendon would receive the 1 seed at the Regional tournament. If the Hawks win all games this weekend, they’ll be name the outright Champions.
When asked how she felt the season has been building up this year, Coach Raines stated that due to the weather, the team didn’t have as many pre-season games as they normally do and it took them a little longer to figure some stuff out. She also went on to say, "Essentially, we need to take care of ourselves. We need to play like we can play. We think we're the best team in the conference, but we need to play like we are."
