Bulldogettes win in extra inning -

Bulldogettes 2, Lady Mustangs 1 @ Andrews

The Coahoma Bulldogettes pulled off a score in the top eighth inning to claim their sixth win of the season Tuesday night in Andrews. The Bulldogettes won 2-1 against the Lady Mustangs in Andrews.

The game was forced into the extra inning after Andrew’s Hailey Canava homered a fly ball to right field. The Bulldogetttes were able to get out of the inning without anymore scores and set to work on their offense.

With one out in the top of the eighth, Coahoma’s Kamri Kemper got on base with a walk and ended up in scoring position in the next play after Jaydan Mann blasted a fly ball to right field for a double. Pitcher MaKynlee Overton flied out to right field but Kemper tagged up at third and headed straight across home plate for the winning score.

The Bulldogetttes wrapped up the game in the bottom of the eighth allowing only one player on base who advanced because she was hit by a pitch.

Overall hits were a precious commodity during Tuesday’s game and both teams remained scoreless until the seventh inning. Coahoma took the lead for the first time after Kenzi Canales grounded out to the Lady Mustang pitcher but the sacrifice allowed Ashley Romero to score. Romero got on base earlier by belting a double on a hard ground ball to center field. She advanced to third base thanks to a successful bunt by MaKayla Overton.

The Lady Mustangs major threat to the Bulldogettes came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Aubree Hernandez stepped up the plate with the bases loaded and only one out. She hit into a double play to MaKynlee Overton and stranded two fellow teammates on base.

MaKynlee Overton earned the win for the game. She threw 108 pitches, allowed 6 hits and 1 run, and struck out 3 over eight innings. She faced 33 batters and got 75 strikes.

Romero and Mann hit doubles. Lexi Montelongo and Romero were both nimble on their feet and were credited with one stolen base each. Romero led the Bulldogs in hits going 2 for 4 at the plate.
