Bulldogs v. Clyde, 02/05/18

**Bulldogs 8th Grade "A" Team wins at home**

The Coahoma Bulldogs 8th Grade A Team won their last home game in a thrilling come-from-behind victory against the Clyde Bulldogs Monday night in the Cohaoma ISD competition gym. Coahoma won 32-26.

The Clyde Bulldogs held the lead through three quarters of the game and entered the fourth with a six point advantage. Ashton Kimball sank a shot at the free throw line to cut the deficit down to only five.

Then, Coahoma’s Kaden Paul nailed a 3-pointer followed up by another score from teammate Brysen Kerby to knot the game at 25-all. However, Clyde quickly pulled away after a player buried one in at the free throw line. That’s when Ky Kemper stepped up and nailed one from behind the arc. Coahoma took the lead for the first time 28-26 with a little more than 2 minutes left to play. Sixteen seconds later, Grayson Jacobs sailed the ball over to Kemper who then sank one in for another 2. Kobe Cervantes buried the ball into the net from a jumper under the basket for the last score of the game.

It was an exciting end to the close fought game. By the end of the first quarter, Clyde held a very slim one point advantage with the score at 8-7. Kemper knocked in 4 points in the first and Kerby had 2 which came from a jumper under the net. Cervantes nailed a shot from the charity stripe to round out the ‘Dogs 7-point gain.

By half, the Clyde Bulldogs were able to extend their lead by 5 points, but goals by Kemper and Kerby kept the ‘Dogs in the running heading into the last two quarters of play.

Kemper was the lead scorer for the Coahoma team earning a whopping 17 points throughout the match with 10 of those points coming in the second half. The Coahoma Bulldogs netted 13 goals in the fourth quarter and won the game by 6 points, 32-26.

** Coahoma 8th Grade "B" boys lose to Clyde **

The Coahoma Bulldogs 8th Grade "B" Team lost to the Clyde Bulldogs 19-8 in junior high basketball action held Monday in the Coahoma High School gym.

The Clyde boys team came out strong in the first half netting 12 points while holding Coahoma to only 1. That score came from Coahoma’s J.B. Mashburn who nailed a shot at the charity line in the second quarter.

Returning for the third, the Coahoma team was reenergized after a talk from their coach and held the Clyde Bulldogs to only a 1 point gain which came at the free throw line. Early in the quarter, Tanner Atkins sank in a ball from a jumper to nudge the Coahoma Bulldogs into action.

Offensively, the Coahoma boys team picked up steam in the fourth starting with Daniel Vela-Wences who nailed a shot by lobbing the ball overhead near the post. Clyde answered back with a 2-point goal of their own then Phoenix Martin buried a field goal adding 2 more to Coahoma’s score. For the last Coahoma goal of the game, Atkins sank a free throw.The Clyde team netted one more score to walk away as the winners, 19-8.
