Scratch another mark in the win column for Coahoma’s 8th Grade boys A team. The Bulldogs defeated Stanton 27-19, while the 8th grade B team lost to the Buffaloes in junior high basketball action Monday night.

The first points on the board came from Kobe Cervantes, No. 50, by dropping the ball in for 2 to give the Bulldogs the lead early in the game. Stanton answered by tying the game at 2,2 with 3:11 on the game clock. The Buffs comeback was short lived as Bryson Kerby, No. 5, stepped up to the free throw line to give the ‘Dogs a 2-point lead with 1:50 left in the period.

Stanton tied the game once more at the free throw line but with 19.5 seconds left, Ashton Kimball, No. 55, sank one in after being fouled. At the end of the first period of play, the score was 5,4 in favor of the ‘Dogs.

As the second period of play began, Cervantes added 2 more for Coahoma as the game clock read 5:06. The young Bulldog found a lot of luck at the basket Monday night contributing 8 points to the overall score.

Logan Saverance, No. 25, and Kerby, No. 5, were successful at the free throw line helping the ‘Dogs to end the first half 13,7. During the second half, Saverance, Cervantes, Kimball, and Ky Kemper, No. 2, helped to shore up the game. Kerby, No. 5, was the last Bulldog to add points in the fourth dropping two in from the free throw line to end the game 27,19.

Earlier in the evening, the 8th grade boys B team faced a tough foe in the Stanton Buffaloes. J.B. Mashburn, No. 3, was the first to put up points on the scoreboard for the Bulldogs after Stanton dropped in 8 points during the first period of play. By the second period, the Bulldogs had toughened their defense but so had the Buffaloes. Mashburn, No. 3, added another point for the Bulldogs at the free throw line during the first half but that would be all for the night. ‘Dogs lost 3,29.
