COAHOMA - The Bulldogs 8th grade football team added another check to the win column while the 7th grade team fell just short Thursday night as Coahoma played host to the Stanton Buffaloes in junior high school varsity pigskin play at Bulldog Stadium. The high school junior varsity football team lost to the Stanton Buffaloes 26,18 at Stanton.

 

8th Grade -

Within minutes of the start of the game, the Bulldogs were quick to put points on the board. Coahoma’s No. 7 Brysen Kerby ran into the end zone for six and then added another two points as he brought the ball over the line for the two-point conversion. With the score 8,0 in the first quarter, the Bulldogs recovered a Buffaloes fumble converting the mistake into another 8 points. Kerby again made the touchdown and the ‘Dogs added two more making the score 16,0.

 

Then the Buffaloes fumbled again. This time it was recovered by Coahoma’s No. 2 Tanner Atkins. The Bulldogs turned the mistake into their advantage with another touchdown by No. 34 Josh Ruiz, who ran it across the goal line after catching a pass. With 5:49 left in the half, the score was 22,0.

 

Shortly after, The Buffaloes lost possession of the ball after fumbling the kick-off return which was recovered by Coahoma’s No. 7 Kerby. This time, the Bulldogs were not able to take advantage of the error and turned the ball back to Stanton by a fumble. By the end of the half, the Bulldogs were able to add another 7 to the their lead with the score at 29,0.

 

In the third quarter, the Buffaloes answered back with a long run to the endzone, but the young Stanton team was not able to convert the extra points leaving the score 29,6. While still in the third, the Bulldogs added another 6 points thanks to a run by No. 7 Kerby. At this point, the score stood at 35,6. No 3 Ky Kemper started off the fourth quarter intercepting a pass thrown by the Buffaloes quarterback, but the Bulldogs couldn’t convert the possession into another score. The final score of the game was 35,6.

 

7th grade -

 

Stanton scored early in the first quarter adding 7 points to the board. Coahoma would answer back from a run by No. 25 Jake Bandy, but the ‘Dogs failed to convert the two extra points leaving the score 6,7 for much of the game. In fourth quarter, Stanton drove down the field into the redzone, but the Buffaloes fumbled and Coahoma turned up in possession of the ball. However, the Bulldogs quickly fumbled leaving the Buffaloes another chance with 3:43 left in the game. The Buffaloes worked their way down to the 4-yard line then scored with a quarterback keeper making the score  6,13. The Bulldogs made one last effort to pull off a win by a quick drive down the field, but Coahoma didn’t beat the clock. Final score 6,13


 

The Junior High and Junior Varsity teams will be back in action Thursday. The seventh and 8th grade teams travel to Idalou to play against the Wildcats. The 7th grade game starts at 4:30 p.m. while the 8th grade game begins at 6 p.m. The JV will be at home this week to play host to Idalou. Kick-off is at 6 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.
