The TSC New York Marathon is 26.2 miles of course that runs through 5 boroughs of New York City and is currently the largest marathon in the world with a record amount of over 51,000 finishers in last year’s race alone. Local Big Spring resident, Mike Solis, is committed to taking part in the action this year!

Solis said that one day he woke up and was inspired to run. He ran 9 miles that morning and decided to do a half-marathon. When he finished the half-marathon, he decided to compete in a full marathon. He participated in his first full marathon during the Austin Marathon back in February of this year.

Solis stated that he had only been training about four months before the marathon and that towards the end of the race he didn't think that he would be able to finish. Thankfully, his wife, Enchantra Solis, motivated him to continue and ran the last two miles of the marathon with him. When asked how it felt to cross the finish line, Solis said, "It was really breathtaking," and he had been excited that he was able to complete a marathon even though he didn't get the time he was hoping.

Now Solis is less than 80 days away from the TSC New York Marathon that will take place on November 5th, 2017 and he's extremely confident that he's better prepared this time around. He's been training for almost a year and now that it's crunch time Solis trains with an intense workout five days per week.

When asked what advice he has for anyone who’s intimidated to go after their dream of competing in something similar to this Solis said, "Have the right mind-set. You're not going for time. You're looking to finish. That was my goal at first, just to finish. That's what I say to people who are going to try it out. If you don't succeed, try again. Just keep going toward your goal."
