New District Director Patsy Garza was elected for LULAC District 22 last night at their annual meeting. The mission of LULAC, which stands for League of United Latin American Citizens, is to advance the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, housing, health and civil rights of the Hispanic population of the United States. According to Garza, District 22 encompasses Howard County and surrounding areas.


A Meet and Greet event was also held at Ryan Hall last night with candidates who are running in local elections. Those present at the event were:


Edilisa Saldivar - Howard County  Commissioner, Pct. 1 candidate

Oscar Garcia - Howard County Commissioner, Pct. 1 incumbent

Stan Parker - Howard County Sheriff incumbent

Nick Ornelas - Big Spring City Council, District 1 candidate

Rodger Rodman - Big Spring City Council, District 3 candidate

Enchantra Solis - candidate for Big Spring ISD Board member, District 1

Tom Olague - Big Spring ISD Board Member, District 1 incumbent
