During yesterday’s Howard County Commissioners Court, the first public hearing was held to consider lowering the speed limit on County Road 34 in Precinct 4 of Howard County.  The particular section of the road begins at FM 669 and moves east to County Road 41.

During the public hearing, Howard County Road and Bridge Engineer Brian Klinkseik stated that the section of the road had been heavily damaged in May of this year during flooding and extremely high oilfield traffic. Although there has been continuous repairs made to the road, he felt that due its deteriorating state it is no longer safe to be driven on at 65 mph. Klinkseik requested that the speed limit be lowered to 50 mph, which is the speed that he believed most traffic would be safe and comfortable.

It should be noted that no one from the public spoke during the public hearing.
