The Big Spring City Council will hold a regular meeting this evening at 5:30 PM in the City Council Chambers located at 304 E. 4th St. in Big Spring.

Listed on today’s agenda is a section for Public Comment at the beginning of the meeting. Speakers will be limited to 5 minutes each, and no action will be taken during this time by the Council. It should be noted that citizens wishing to address the Council should fill out a speaker sign in sheet and turn it in to the city secretary prior to the meeting.

According to Big Spring Mayor Shannon Thomason, “Public Comment” will remain on the agenda for as long as he is Mayor and he hopes his successor will continue it as well. Thomason advised that having public comments during city council meetings is actually a city ordinance and he’s a firm believer in the right of the citizens to address their representatives.

New business items on the agenda include the presentation of the Howard County Appraisal District’s proposed 2020 budget, a first reading of a resolution amending the tax abatement guidelines and criteria by decreasing the administration fees for tax abatement applications, and the elections of a Mayor Pro Tem, and of a council representative to the Tax Abatement Advisory Committee and to the Convention and Visitors Bureau Board.
