According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, DPS Troopers responded to the collision at FM 1379 and East CR 120, just 13 miles east of Midland on Monday at approximately 5:40 PM. The preliminary investigation revealed that Daniel Carreno-Hernandez, 24-year-old male of Midland and the driver of a 2015 Mack truck-tractor, was traveling north on FM 1379, when Teffoni Phillips, 34-year old female from Stanton and the driver of a 2017 Jeep Wrangler, failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign on E. CR 120 and thus struck the semi.
It was noted that both drivers had their seatbelts on at the time of the crash. The juveniles riding with Phillips were also secure in their child safety seats. Phillips and a male juvenile passenger were transported to Midland Memorial Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries. The female juvenile passenger was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock, where she later pronounced deceased.
The driver of the Mack truck tractor was not injured.
