Yesterday, the West Texas VA Health Care System in Big Spring held a ceremony to honor their nurses.
During the ceremony, Les White, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, Chief of Nursing for the West Texas VA Health Care System, was announced as the 2019 Torch-Bearer Award Winner. The Torch-Bearer is local award created in 1996. It recognizes nurses who through their dedication, compassion, and professionalism have contributed over a lifetime to profession and to the community in which they serve. White has been with the West Texas VA since 1983.
Also during yesterday’s program, Cody Miller, LVN was recognized as the Secretary Award Winner. Each year the Secretary's Award for Excellence in Nursing and Advancement of Nursing Programs is given to individuals who have been nominated by their colleagues for outstanding service to our veterans and the Department of Veterans Affairs. They have demonstrated excellence and the highest level of dedication to their profession.
Longevity awards were also given during the program to recognize Audrey Alfano, LVN, Mary Laredo, C.N.A., and White for their many years of service.
