During yesterday's meeting of Howard County Commissioners Court, it was determined that the Howard County burn ban would continue through June 12, 2019. At that time the information will be reviewed again to determine whether another extension of the burn ban is needed.

Sheriff Stan Parker advised the Commissioners that the local jail is running near capacity and that they are running near capacity every day. He noted that usually, the jail runs through peaks and valleys in the amount of people housed, but Sheriff Parker noted that the jail has been consistently near capacity for over a year.

Due to the number of people that are currently housed in the jail, Sheriff Parker advised that they were still taking violent offenders into custody, but he felt the only option at this time would be to house some of the offenders out of the county.

An agreement with Garza County has been approved to allow them to house some of the Howard County inmates. Garza County would be responsible for transporting them for court dates.
