The Big Spring Fire Department announced that they had received a donation from Occidental Petroleum Corporation (OXY) in the amount of $10,000 for the purchase of bunker gear and cardiac monitor equipment.
The Hotel/Motel Tax Fund budget was increased by over $45,000 for the purpose adding additional funding for the Convention and Visitors Bureau events such as the Iron Orchard Movie Premiere, the trial run for the 2020 Pan American Hang Gliding Championships, the 2nd Annual Song Swap at the Spring, and a Texas Trail Plains Conference that will be held in Big Spring in the coming months, as well as any other events what will be held in Big Spring that are specifically sponsored by the CVB and not any other organization.
Progressive Commercial Aquatics, Inc. was awarded the bids for the Aquatic Center Improvements, for a total of $220,062.18. According to John Medina, Assistant City Manager for the City of Big Spring, the bid came in $8,000 below budget. Improvements include re-plastering the pool, and repainting the slide and play features at the Russ McEwen Aquatic Center.
