The beginning of each new year inspires people to dream big and set goals. If one of your goals this year is to find an outlet to creatively express yourself, you won’t have to look any further than the Open Mic Night at the Desert Flower Art Bar on Thursday nights at 9 PM.
Sergio Cervantes, local stand-up comic, has been taking advantage of Open Mic Night to hone his craft for almost 3 years. He told KBest News that his first time on stage was meant to be a one-time experience but he fell in love with it.
"I really can't believe it's been almost three years! It's awesome, and to think how far I've grown as a comic. It's really cool to think about because when I first started off I was absolute garbage."
When asked how an Open Mic Night is beneficial to anyone looking to sharpen their craft in front of an audience, Cervantes stated that open mics offer absolute freedom.
"Here [at the Desert Flower Art Bar], it's amazing because you're free to say whatever you want and perform however you want," said Cervantes. "I've always thought of that as an incredible thing for open mics. You're able to do whatever you want and there's no stopping you. There's nobody saying 'You need to hold back doing this;' 'Oh, you're cursing too much;' [or] 'You need to do this material.' You're finding out what you're good at, and you just go with it."
According to Jeremiah Peters with the Desert Flower Art Bar, the establishment has always been open to musicians and artists of all kind. Feel free to participate or check out the next Open Mic Night at the Desert Flower Art Bar, this Thursday at 9 PM.
