Volunteers are needed to help with this year’s Relay for Life of Howard and Glasscock Counties event, “Relay through the Decades: A Cure Never Goes out of Style” that is set for Saturday, May 11th, from 4-10 PM. This year will be Big Spring’s 25th anniversary to hold the event and this year it will be held outside at Comanche Trail Park.

A planning meeting for this year’s Relay for Life event will be on Thursday, Jan. 10th, at 6:30 PM at Hunan’s Chinese Restaurant in Big Spring. The meeting is for those currently on the Leadership team and anyone interested in volunteering to help make the event the best it can possibly be. Candice Escamilla, Community Development Manager for the American Cancer Society, told KBest News that volunteers help with everything from decorating, entertainment, and set up, to the survivor celebration. She noted that the more volunteers they have, the task of putting it together isn't as tough.

Relay for Life is a community-based fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. In addition to conducting cancer research, the American Cancer Society also provides rides to and from treatment facilities for cancer patients, and provide lodging for the patients and caregivers. Escamilla also advised that the organization also provides free wigs through Merle Norman Cosmetics in Big Spring, as well as other services.
