Howard County elected and appointed officials were sworn in this morning during a special meeting of the Howard County Commissioners Court by now former Judge Bennie Green. This was Judge Green's final official act before settling into retirement after 37 years of service to Howard County.
The list of those sworn in this morning includes: County Clerk Brent Zitterkopf, County Judge Kathryn Wiseman, County Treasurer Sharon Adams, Justice of the Peace Pct. 1, Pl. 2 Judge Robert Fitzgibbons, Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 Judge Connie Shaw, and County Commissioner Craig Bailey, Precinct 2. Angela Griffin, an appointed official, also took her oath at that time as well.
Griffin was sworn in as the new Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, Place 1, and will be taking over the rest of Judge Bennie Green's term. Judge Griffin stated that she is excited to take over the position and was excited that she was able to get sworn into office in front of her family who were there to support her.
Others who will be sworn in are District Clerk Colleen Barton, District Judge Timothy Yeats, and Howard County Commissioner John Cline.
Before the officials were sworn in, Howard County Elections Administrator Jodi Duck spoke about the Canvassing Report for Howard County for the General Election held on Nov. 6, 2018. She reported that 7,433 voters turned out for the last election, which was a 44% turnout. Duck noted that this was an 8.67 percent increase in voter turnout from the 2014 Gubernatorial Election.
