Greater Opportunities of the Permian Basin celebrated the addition of The Early Head Start Program at Bauer Head Start School Readiness Academy, located at 108 NW 9th St. in Big Spring with a ribbon cutting with the Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce Wednesday afternoon.
When asked how she felt about the ribbon cutting, Catriva Webbs, Executive Director of Greater Opportunities of the Permian Basin, noted that their community assessments for the area have shown that it’s been a great need in the area and they’re excited to be able to provide for those services to meet the needs for the children and families in Big Spring.
Although Head start consists of pre-school ages 3 to 5, the new early head start ranges from pregnant moms to age 2. Webb advised that it’s the same head start program - researched-based curriculum implementation in the classroom – it’s just an early age group and what’s appropriate for their learning at this age. Unlike head start, early head start provides services year-round.
Applications for the program can be picked up and returned at the front office of the school, 108 NW 9th, and are accepted all year long.
