When There's Smoke on the Mountain or Clouds in the Air, K-Best News Is There!

Bennie Green, Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1 Place 1 for Howard County will be officially retiring on December 31st of this year. Judge Green began his 37 years of service with Howard County in the Howard County Sheriff’s Office where he spent 18 years in law enforcement. He was later appointed as a Justice of the Peace in 1999 when he took over the position from Judge China Long.

Judge Green says he has no definite plans for what will happen after retirement but he enjoys playing golf, fishing and hunting.

Due to Judge Green’s retirement coming in the middle of his term, the Howard County Commissioners had to appoint someone to fill his position until the next election. Angela Griffin was appointed to fill this position. She has been working in the County Attorney’s office under Josh Hamby for the last 10 years.

Judge Kathryn Wiseman told KBest News that Griffin will have to complete a total of 80 hours of training in her first year as Justice of the Peace. Her first training session will be on December 10th in Austin. Her first official day in her new position will be on Jan. 1st, but beginning on December 3rd she’ll begin shadowing Judge Green and the other 2 Justice of the Peace.
