If you’ve ever visited the The Mayo Sauce Family Diner in downtown Big Spring, you may have seen a small note on the side of the entrance door from the Mayo Sauce Family that says:

“Attention: extended family of Big Spring here @ Mayo Sauce Family Diner if you are unable to afford a meal we will offer you one NOT of your choice and a drink at no cost to you.”

The “extended family” in this compassionate message refers to everyone because Brandi Mayo, Owner of the Mayo Sauce Family Diner, says that she feels like “we’re all a part of God’s family.”

What started out as a small act of kindness has blossomed into what is now known as the “Pay It Forward” wall that is proudly displayed in the center of the restaurant. The blackboard wall has colorful post-it notes that bear words of encouragement and each note can also be used as a $10 meal and drink voucher for anyone who may find themselves unable to afford a meal.

“Other people can donate $10 to help feed somebody who might be less fortunate and they can come in and get a meal and drink of their choice on the $10 that someone else has donated,” said Mayo. She went on to say that she encourages donors to write an encouraging message on the post-it and stick it to the wall.

Mayo advised KBest News that she was inspired to do this by her mother. "She taught us to do what’s right, and if somebody’s hungry you feed them. "
