This morning, Scenic Mountain Medical Center announced that they’d entered a partnership with Pink the Basin, a 501(c)3 organization that is dedicated to raise awareness of women’s health issues and foster educational and service initiatives that positively embrace women’s health. SMMC was awarded a $10,500 grant that will allow women in the Big Spring area, who cannot afford a mammogram due to a lack of or inadequate insurance, to get the mammography services they need.
According to Ginger Silva, Mammographer at SMMC, patients will be able to receive screening and diagnostic breast ultrasounds thanks to the funding from this grant.
Brigette Meyers, Executive Director for Pink the Basin, explained that their organization Pink the Basin is able to raise funds all over the Permian Basin and then distribute those funds back to hospitals to help women who cannot afford to pay for their mammograms and everything up to treatment for breast cancer.
Amanda Duforat, Marking Manager for SMMC noted, "We are excited to step into this partnership and the impact that it can have on the women in Howard County and the fight against breast cancer.”
