Today, 10 teams gathered at the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum on the Sonic Floor to compete in the 14th Annual Hoops, Dreams, and Goals - now called the Darrell E. Smith Hoops, Dreams, and Goals Basketball Tournament. Participants are consumers from the 23 counties that are served by West Texas Centers for MHMR.
After the Grand Entrance, Shelley Smith, Chief Executive Officer of West Texas Centers opened the mic and welcomed the guests. Guy White gave the Invocation, and Hannah Hilger performed the National Anthem. Mayor Larry McLellan conducted the Darrell E. Smith Dedication, and President of Howard College Cheryl Sparks gave the closing remarks before the tournament began.
Kalautie JangDhari, Director of the West TExas VA Health Care System, threw the ball out Court 1. Emma Krabill, CEO of Scenic Mountain Medical Center, threw the ball out for Court 2 to kick off the games; and the Arena Announcer was Ron Shafer.
Throughout the course of the tournament, the coliseum was filled with positive energy from the teams, cheerleaders, and fans. The participating teams are as follows:

Abilene Chili Peppers
San Angelo Bobcats
The San Angelo Bobcats won both the basketball tournament and the Spirit Stick.
