Around mid-day on Monday, March 5th, the Howard County Volunteer Fire Department responded to a grass fire that was resulted from a weather balloon falling out of the sky onto power lines. The fire burned approximately 60 acres of land near Vincent.
According to HCVFD Chief Tommy Sullivan, the fire covered a half-mile long, and a quarter-mile wide, and firefighters fought the blaze for approximately 3 hours. A county bulldozer and a maintainer was used to help put out the fire. No injuries were reported, and other than the acreage that was burned, there was no other damage as a result of the fire.
